our commitment
creating also means choosing how we do it.
At mefaldastú, we believe in sustainable fashion that makes the most of what already exists and transforms it, cares for resources, and recognizes the value of the people involved in every part of the process.
Sustainability starts with design. Many of our pieces are created using upcycling and circular economy principles, recovering textiles, garments, fabric remnants, and production leftovers to transform them and give them a new life. We create versatile, multi-size and genderless pieces, often in limited editions, making the most of the materials available and turning their differences into part of their identity.
We also choose materials and processes with the aim of reducing our impact. The polyester fabrics we use are made from recycled bottles, and we work with materials and suppliers that hold internationally recognized environmental, social, and textile certifications. We use sustainable fabrics and certified eco-friendly inks. In the latest production of our mefaldas toalla, we have also removed the external label and replaced it with a print directly on the garment.
The way we produce also keeps things local and puts people at the heart of the process. We work from Tenerife, supporting local, artisanal production and collaborating with workshops that work with people at risk of discrimination, supporting processes that value craftsmanship and the work of everyone involved.
Even preparing each order can be an opportunity to make better use of resources. To wrap our garments, we reuse residual paper from another company’s digital printing processes, giving a material that would normally be discarded a new purpose as packaging.
These choices, big and small, reflect the same way of thinking about fashion: creating more consciously, making better use of what we already have, and generating as little waste as possible.
For mefaldastú, sustainability isn’t a collection or a label we add at the end. It’s part of the way we create.
